BRIEF: Modified lockdown lifted on two Gig Harbor schools

Nov 19, 2012 (The Peninsula Gateway (Gig Harbor - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The modified lockdown on both Both Voyager Elementary and Kopachuck Middle schools has been lifted as of 12:05 p.m., according to the Peninsula School District's website.

The schools had been on modified lockdown as Pierce County Sheriff's deputies and Gig Harbor police officers searched the surrounding neighborhood for a suspect who fled the scene of an attempted burglary.

The home is 5100 block 105th Avenue Court NW. K-9 officers attempted to track the one known suspect, who was seen leaving the home late Monday morning.

Modified lockdown means exterior doors are locked and students aren't allowed outside for lunch and recess, according to Julie Richards, legal and communications assistant at Peninsula School District.

"Kids are ideally kept in class," she said.
