Nov 16, 2012 (The Arizona Daily Star - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- UA student robbed in Park Ave. garage A University of Arizona student was robbed Thursday afternoon in the Park Avenue Parking Garage.

The student, who was not injured, was forced to turn over his belongings to the robber shortly before 4:30 p.m. while in the garage at 1140 N. Park Avenue, said Sgt. Juan Alvarez, a UA Police Department spokesman.

Alvarez gave this account: The victim told investigators that he was walking in the 1100 block of East Helen Street when two men in a white late model 15-passenger van exchanged words with him. The van had no windows on the side panels.



The victim described the driver as an Asian man in his mid-to-late 20s who had short hair. He was wearing a baseball cap, sunglasses, a white T-shirt and shorts.

He described the passenger as a white man in his mid-to-late 20s. He was 5 feet 10 inches tall, had short blond hair and was wearing a white T-shirt and shorts.


The victim walked past the van and up the northeast stairwell of the parking garage. While in the garage, he was approached by the van passenger who threatened him and told him to turn over his belongings. The student complied.

The investigation is continuing, and UA police ask that anyone with information about the robbery call 911 or 88-CRIME.

Carmen Duarte 2 Sunnyside students treated for overdose Two students at Sunnyside High School were treated by Tucson Fire Department paramedics for an overdose Thursday afternoon.

Firefighters responded at 1:44 p.m. to the high school at 1725 E. Bilby Road, said Capt. Barrett Baker, a Fire Department spokesman.

Both students, who are teen girls, were taken to a hospital, authorities said.

No further information was available.

Carmen Duarte Pot found in gas tank; Sonora woman is held A 19-year-old woman from Nogales, Sonora, was arrested Wednesday at the Mariposa port of entry after marijuana was found in her vehicle's gas tank.

Federal officers detained Alexis Desire Valdez-Zazueta after 24 packages of marijuana were found, Juan Osorio, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman, said in a news release.

The marijuana weighed nearly 49 pounds and was worth more than $24,000.

Valdez-Zazueta's Ford SUV and the drugs were processed for seizure, and she was turned over to federal authorities.
