4G LTE coming to Victor Valley

Nov 12, 2012 (Daily Press - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Verizon will become the first carrier to roll out 4G LTE in the Victor Valley on Thursday, allowing mobile device customers to see their data speeds increase by up to 10 times.

The expansion will happen in Victorville, Hesperia, Adelanto and Apple Valley as well as Ventura and Northern Los Angeles counties, according to a Verizon press release. Spokesman Ken Muche said the service should become available after midnight Thursday, but he couldn't give a specific launch time.

Some local Verizon customers have been getting 4G LTE service intermittently on their phones as the company recently conducted pre-launch tests in the area.

Verizon's 4G LTE network will allow its customers with newer model iPhones, iPads and Android phones and tablets to get much faster data connections than they do with 3G.

Muche said customers will notice a big difference when they use video chat services such as Apple's FaceTime and Skype.

"The quality is much better (on 4G)," he said. "There's no lag." For street-level details of coverage, visit www.verizonwireless.com/4GLTE (information for the Victor Valley area wasn't updated as of Monday afternoon).
