KATHMANDU: The number of fixed-line telephone users in Nepal rose to 839,067 in mid-August, slightly down from 839,710 in mid-July. Of the total, 635,596 were PSTN users and 203,471 were WLL users, according to figures from the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA). Nepal Telecom grew its PSTN base to 629,801 from 628,575 a month earlier, while STM Telecom Sanchar’s base inched up to 5,197 from 5,192 customers. Smart had 598 PSTN public phone centres, similar to a month earlier. Nepal Telecom also had 129,126 WLL users, down from 131,395 in July, while United Telecom had 71,395 WLL subscribers, versus 71,339 a month earlier. Nepal Satellite Telecom had 2,950 WLL subscribers, up from 2,611. Furthermore, the number of limited mobility subscribers totalled 1.14 million, up from 1.10 million in July. UTL served 573,605 limited mobility subscribers, up from 565,965, STM had 155 customers, Nepal Satellite had 146,758 subscribers, up from 143,708 a month earlier, and Smart had 418,847 subscriber, up from 395,138.
