GridNavigator Releases Intraday Energy Forecasting Service for Strategic Demand Management

Redmond, WA, May 21, 2012 ( via COMTEX) -- GridNavigator, a provider of intelligent energy management systems, announced today the availability of an industry-first energy forecasting service that enables intraday demand management programs. The forecasting service uses a patent-pending cloud-based quantitative model to analyze historic and intraday energy usage patterns and weather data to predict accurately demand (kW) and power (kWh) throughout the day.

The forecasts are pushed to BACnet building management systems (BMS) and make it possible for facility managers to identify in real-time critical energy spikes, usage patterns and specific events that contribute the most to peak demand surcharges. This insight can then be converted into BMS optimization routines to update direct digital controls (DDC), as well as implement bi-directional remote control of individual components outside the BMS, such as heavy-load machinery.

"We use the cloud to run quantitative models on time series data, which generates intraday energy forecasts for our customers that are more timely and accurate than competitive offerings," said Al Cabrini, CEO, GridNavigator. "Using this insight, our customers can do intraday strategic demand limiting and load shedding across facilities and systems." The real-time energy forecasting service allows GridNavigator customers to predict more accurately when they are about to breach their targeted energy consumption or costs. These insights allow customers to systematically take action to proactively control the demand high water mark and prevent energy wastage. Competitive offerings do not provide precise, intraday demand predictions that utilize time series data analysis.

The forecasting service is a feature of, GridNavigator's cloud-based energy management system (EMS). GridNavigator's GridXchange Server product manages the communication of the forecast from the cloud to different BACnet endpoints. It also aggregates and normalizes data from distributed end-points from different BMS, which is then analyzed within the cloud-based EMS. The GridNavigator EMS complements traditional BMS by identifying energy spikes both within and outside of various systems, providing an intraday, accurate and complete demand management program.

"GridNavigator has developed a unique technology to predict future energy and power demand, which is more accurate than using only historical or static data," said Angela Estey, Account Manager, Trane Corporation. "This helps users of a BMS to take corrective actions before it is too late and to more effectively budget their demand cost." GridNavigator provides a turn-key solution that combines cloud-based analytics, software and hardware to enable real-time monitoring and control of energy end-points. GridNavigator is a value-added reseller (VAR) and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) partner of Echelon Corporation, an energy control networking company with the world's most widely deployed proven, open standard, multi-application platform, LonWorks.

About GridNavigator GridNavigator is a leading provider of intelligent energy management systems (EMS) for commercial & industrial applications. It offers the industry's first intraday energy forecasting service. The company was founded in 2009 and has customers in the education, government, property management and healthcare sectors.
