Chengdu MSO Deploys Entropic Communications' c.LINK(R) Access Technology to Deliver Robust Video and Broadband Services

BEIJING, Mar 20, 2012 (GlobeNewswire via COMTEX) -- CHINA CONTENT BROADCASTING NETWORK EXPO -- Entropic Communications, a leading provider of silicon and software solutions to enable connected home entertainment, announced today that the Company's c.LINK(R) Broadband Access silicon has been deployed by Chengdu MSO for delivering robust broadband service to subscribers over the Chengdu MSO network. The deployment is made possible through: GD.LINK, an Ethernet-over-Coax (EoC) platform produced by Guangda, a highly-recognized access equipment provider, to deliver video and broadband services which co-exist on a single coax infrastructure for multi-dwelling units (MDUs) throughout the Chengdu, Sichaun region of China.

A file accompanying this release is available at http://media.globenewswire.com/cache/9308/file/12984.pdf Chengdu MSO and Guangda selected Entropic's c.LINK Broadband Access technology for its ability to enable cost effective bi-directional services on the existing coax, strong quality of service (QoS) for triple play services, scalable bandwidth management for each client in the network, support for multiple channels on the single coax to address increasing bandwidth demand, and low latency for supporting Internet Protocol (IP) video. Through this technology, Chengdu MSO is now able to offer robust and reliable broadband access and IP video on demand (VOD) programs to its existing TV subscribers as part of a bundled package that will allow for increased revenues per household, while keeping deployment costs low.

Entropic's c.LINK Broadband Access technology, based on its widely deployed MoCA(R) (Multimedia over Coax) 1.1 silicon has been enabling robust and reliable broadband services in the China EoC market for the last three years. An ideal technology to address the China EoC market, Entropic's c.LINK is a High radio frequency (RF) implementation, making it a solid solution for cable operators who plan to upgrade their networks for bi-directional communication as it can coexist with other services on the same coaxial cable. The c.LINK Broadband Access technology is a cost-competitive solution for operators as it can support increasing bandwidth demands with more channels and provides support for all IP-based applications, such as IPTV, voice over IP (VoIP) and web traffic, among others, while supporting superior latency and QoS performance attributes.

"We adopted an EoC technology deployment with Entropic and Guangda as they offered a mature, stable solution based on the field-proven MoCA standard," said Mr. Qin XueChao, vice general manager, Sichuan Cable Television Network Co Ltd, Chengdu Branch. "Since beginning deployment activities in 2009, we have built a high performance, low latency, bandwidth-rich access network for the delivery of next-generation, high-resolution IP video and multimedia content." "Working with Entropic, we were able to deliver a High RF implementation, offering greater service robustness and guaranteed throughput compared to other access technologies," said Mr. Kang YongHuai, chairman and CEO, Guangda. "Further, the High RF feature enables co-existence with legacy DOCSIS-based or video services residing on the coax -- which enables service providers, like Chengdu MSO greater service capabilities." "Our c.LINK Broadband Access solution in combination with Guangda's GD.LINK product has delivered a major service breakthrough for Chengdu MSO, allowing for broadband service to be delivered to MDU's where there is only a cable broadband infrastructure," said Tom Luan, vice president and general manager, China and Hong Kong operations, Entropic Communications. "We are committed to enabling further enhancements for the local China connected home market and recognize working with partners such as Guangda to extend our c.LINK platform opens up new opportunities across the entertainment value-chain." Entropic's c.LINK Broadband Access solution is scalable with a single network controller supporting up to 63 clients, with rate control available on a per client basis. By operating above the regular CATV signals and providing frequency agility between 800 MHz and 1500 MHz, additional network controllers can be added to support even more clients to the network. In addition, delivering operator-class robustness and unmatched bandwidth over the longest reach, Entropic's Broadband Access solution represents the industry performance benchmark.
