Raytheon integrates WiPak on Embraer Super Tucano counterinsurgency aircraft

Nov 14, 2011 (TELECOMWORLDWIRE via COMTEX) -- Security and defence technology company Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) revealed on Sunday that its testing and development of a new wireless method to integrate its combat-proven Enhanced Paveway precision-guided bomb on the Embraer Super Tucano counterinsurgency aircraft is complete.

Raytheon said its new integration tool, WiPak, uses similar wireless technology to that used in consumer wireless devices such as tablet computers. The integration tool consists of a small wireless transmitter and pilot interface in the aircraft cockpit, along with a small receiver affixed to the Paveway weapon. It enables integration of Paveway on aircraft previously unable to carry the weapon, without modifying aircraft wiring or changing flight and stores management software.

The company added that it is currently testing and deploying the system on similar aircraft.
