SMRT launches iMobSMRT Near Field Communication hub

Oct 12, 2011 (Datamonitor via COMTEX) -- SMRT has launched iMobSMRT, a Near Field Communication, or NFC, technology enabled spaces, making commuters daily to make transactions, exchange digital content, and connect.

In this tie-up with Nokia, six of high-traffic stations Orchard, City Hall, Tampines, Jurong East, Woodlands and Holland Village will be the first to give commuters the iMobSMRT experience. It will then be progressively available in the rest of the SMRT network. The many conveniences brought by the iMobSMRT will include allowing commuters to book an SMRT taxi just by tapping their NFC-enabled smart phones on the NFC tag or QR code, the company said.

Ms Dawn Low, vice president (Commercial), SMRT, said: "We are excited to offer SMRT commuters the latest news and events, entertainment, music, sports, services, merchant offers and more through the iMobSMRT spaces. Our launch partners have set the benchmark for quality NFC interaction with their technological expertise and rich content.
