SDP Goes to Court to Demand Recognition

Jun 30, 2011 (Nairobi Star/All Africa Global Media via COMTEX) -- Social Democratic Party yesterday went to court to compel the Registrar of Political Parties to register its bona fide officials, who include Mwandawiro Mgangha as chairman.

The party whose manifesto is socialist, is crying foul over alleged masqueraders, who it claims are interested in wrecking the party. "We have begun the legal process of reclaiming our party against some capitalists who are trying to change the core values we stand for," Mgangha said, in reference to former MPs, Mutahi Kagwe, Mutua Katukuu and Njeru Ndwiga who he claims are using fraudulent means to ascend to the party's leadership.

He accused the Registrar of Political Parties of negligence and partisan for failing to act on his orders to have the legally recognized officials registered. "If she (Registrar) feels there is any problem, she ought to have forwarded the complaints to the tribunal for intervention," he said, adding that the alleged masqueraders forged documents and purported to be members.

He urged members to join hands and fight back the forces of the rich, intent on hijacking the party, which he said belonged to the poor. "It has been mandated to provide desired change for the people," he said.

"The alleged leaders are hypocrites who are among the ruling elites and are doing illegal causes to the people," he further alleged they doctored the party manifesto to accommodate their selfish interests.
