Apple Inc. Issues Apology for iPhone 4 Pre-Order Debacle (AAPL,T)

Jun 16, 2010 (SmarTrend News Watch via COMTEX) -- Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) released an apology from the company Wednesday, after several website crashes and technical difficulties occurred for itself and AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) during the iPhone 4 pre-order boom.

Customers experienced online technical difficulties while trying to pre-order the smart phone Tuesday due to a higher-than-expected volume of orders, however, iPhone 4s managed to completely sell out in less than 24 hours of the pre-sale.

Apple and AT&T reportedly took over 600,000 pre-orders of the new smart phone yesterday.

A statement released by Apple officials read: "It was the largest number of pre-orders Apple has ever taken in a single day and was far higher than we anticipated, resulting in many order and approval system malfunctions. Many customers were turned away or abandoned the process in frustration. We apologize to everyone who encountered difficulties, and hope that they will try again or visit an Apple or carrier store once the iPhone 4 is in stock." iPhone carrier AT&T has suspended pre-orders of the new device and company spokesman Mark Siegel said that AT&T will update the ordering status "very soon." Some customers who pre-ordered, however, will not be promised a June 24th delivery date like other pre-orders, the official launch date for the iPhone 4, and instead, will receive their orders by July 2nd, or a few days after, according to reports.

Shares of Apple are trading up 2.55% Wednesday afternoon at $266.32, while shares of AT&T are trading down 0.20% at $25.49.
