'Wind picks Huawei for broadband development'

Jun 08, 2010 (DMEUROPE via COMTEX) -- Italian operator Wind contracted Huawei for the development of HSPA, LTE mobile networks, core network and fibre optics for ultra-wideband.

The agreement also foresees the creation of a Joint Innovation Lab in Rome. The new lab aims to research and implement technologies and advanced services from the fields of fixed and mobile telecommunications as well as converged communications. Under the terms of the agreement, Wind will adopt Huawei's integrated multi-standard platform SingleRAN. This project will cover seven regions in Italy and the new adopted transmission standards will be HSPA +, LTE and IP ready. Huawei will also handle the entire project management, including the acquisition and construction of sites and the design of the network. Another area covered by the agreement is a Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) transport network based on a next-generation IP protocol, a service designed to offer greater efficiency and improve service quality. In addition, Huawei will provide Wind with a structure for the core network that will enable it to support VoIP and other more advanced services based on IMS. At the same time, Huawei will complement Wind in improving the latter's ultra-wideband services via point-to-point technology.
