snom technology Introduces New Color Touchscreen Expansion Module for 8xx Series VoIP Phones

New snom Vision delivers flexibility and enhanced customization options to award-winning desktop endpoint portfolio Berlin, Germany and Beverly, Mass. (March 22, 2010) - snom technology AG (News - Alert), a leading developer and manufacturer of advanced voice over IP phones for enterprise and residential markets, announced today the availability of a new expansion module for its award-winning 8xx series next-generation IP desktop phones and other endpoints. Dubbed the snom Vision, the new module adds 16 fully programmable keys per unit, which can be used for speed dial, busy line field, presence, mini-browser or other applications.

With each snom 820 or 870 VoIP phone capable of supporting three Vision modules, that’s 48 programmable endpoint monitors per phone. The color touchscreen features the same elegant styling as the snom 820 and snom 870, while also complementing the next-generation functionality of the 8xx suite of endpoints.

In addition to being used as an expansion module, the Vision can also be used as a stand-alone device, using an Ethernet network connection and Linux OS. The built-in web server allows independent configuration through an elegant web interface, though standard snom settings provisioning is also supported. In addition, the Vision acts as an expanded interface managing a wide range of voice-driven business applications, such as CRM systems and unified communications services, and can provide a control point for applications such as remote door opening and one-way video access.

“The snom Vision provides added functionality to our 8xx series of next-generation endpoints, while also adhering to snom’s renowned design standards,” said Dr. Michael Knieling (News - Alert), Executive Vice President of Marketing and Sales for snom technology AG. “With its web capabilities, the Vision also plays a key role in the overall snom portfolio, providing a flexibility and functionality that will help our devices become more than VoIP phones, but intelligent unified communications endpoints.” The Vision features 16 programmable keys with two control keys, each featuring bi-color (red/green) LEDs. The 4.3-inch screen has a resolution of 272 x 480 pixels, with 24 bits color depth. The built-in HTTP and HTTPS server supports automatic loading of settings via HTTP, HTTPS, FTP or TFTP.

The snom 820 and 870, as well as associated accessories such as the PA1 public address system, the MeetingPoint conference module, and now the snom Vision, are designed to take the desktop business phone beyond its traditional position as a person-to-person voice communications device and make it a truly interactive and intelligent business communication device. Armed with full-color and touchscreen interfaces, web programmable ports, and a wide array of interoperable unified communications elements, the entire suite of next generation snom devices represents the future of desktop interaction.

The Vision will be available in Q2, 2010.
