Hinchey Secures Final Congressional Approval Of $1.6 Million For Armor Dynamics In Kingston To Create Jobs & Expand Its Development Of State-Of-The-Art Armor Equipment To Protect U.S. Troops From Wide Array Of Explosives

Dec 19, 2009 (Congressional Documents and Publications/ContentWorks via COMTEX) -- Kingston, NY - Congressman Maurice Hinchey (D-NY) today announced that he has secured final congressional approval of a $1.6 million federal investment for Armor Dynamics in order to assist the Kingston-based company with bringing its advanced reactive armor system to market while creating and saving jobs. Hinchey used his position on the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense to obtain the funds as part of the fiscal year 2010 Defense Appropriations bill, which the House passed this week and the Senate is expected to approve this weekend. The bill will then move to the White House for the president's approval.

"This federal investment will create or save 10 jobs in Kingston right now and pave the way for the likely creation of two dozen more jobs within the next two years from federal contracts that Armor Dynamics will be well-positioned to receive," Hinchey said. "I was very pleased to obtain these funds to support a growing employer in Kingston that is making an important contribution to the well-being of our troops. This money will help Armor Dynamics grow and create jobs in Kingston while providing equipment to our military that will protect and save the lives of the men and women serving in our armed forces." Armor Dynamics is the developer of Magmacore Armor -- a patented composite armor technology that is designed to improve human survivability. The company will use the federal funds to develop a more sophisticated reactive armor system for U.S. military vehicles that would provide U.S. troops with unprecedented protection from Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), Explosively Formed Penetrators (EFPs), and other weapons and explosives. The Magmacore Reactive Armor would be fitted for a variety of lightweight military vehicles.

Armor Dynamics President and CEO David Warren said, "We are grateful to Congressman Hinchey for his unparalleled commitment to promoting the development of the innovation economy and job growth in our community. This funding will support our research partnership with the US Army and lead to innovative solutions that will better protect our combat soldiers." Armor Dynamics will utilize the funding that Hinchey secured in two phases. The first phase will be for testing and development that includes, but is not limited to, paying for engineers, scientists, equipment, raw material and testing facility costs. The company plans to use the remainder of the funding for the continuation of testing and development in preparation for market release.

The company's product will be lighter, stronger and less expensive than competitive armor systems. The Magmacore Reactive Armor system would provide superior levels of protection by using proprietary technologies, advanced composite and custom-configured ceramic materials. Additionally, the advanced armor systems can be easily modified as threats evolve, and can be adapted to specific combat and threat conditions in the field.

Armor Dynamics is located within the Kingston Business Park, which Hinchey helped establish in 1996 by securing $1.8 million in federal funds. That investment has resulted in a variety of businesses staying in the business park or moving to it, including Armor Dynamics.
