'Swisscom wins Swiss Big Brother Award'

(DMeurope Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Swisscom, the postal and telecommunications services surveillance department, DeltaVista and the vocational school in Winterthur have won the Swiss Big Brother Awards. The awards are given to organisations, who have breach data protection law the most. Swisscom won in the Busines category due to its procedures for activation VDSL and new ADSL routers. The vocational school in Winterthur won the working place award as the school's director has asked neighbours of the school to photograph students, who drop litter on the school's grounds. DeltaVista wins the Lifetime Achievement Award as market leader of all companies that collect private (customer) data for commercial purposes. The government award went to the postal and telecommunications services surveillance department that is responsible for the Swiss data retention regulation. Under the regulation, all Swiss ISPs and telecom service providers are obligated to store connection data of all their customers for six months. The department also wants to be able to tap into live internet activitity and ordered all ISPs to enable such tapping before 1 July 2010 at their own costs.
