eBANK to be renamed Rakuten Bank

TOKYO, Jun 04, 2009 (Kyodo News International - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Internet mall operator Rakuten Inc. said Thursday it will rename its Internet banking unit eBANK Corp. as Rakuten Bank before late June 2010.

The renaming is aimed at making clear the bank's position as a member of the Rakuten group, Rakuten said. eBANK became a consolidated subsidiary of Rakuten in February.

The bank will also move its head office to Rakuten's headquarters in Tokyo's Shinagawa Ward on July 21, Rakuten said.

These changes will be subject to approval at a general meeting of the bank's shareholders on June 29.
