VeriChip announces sale of VeriTrace system in New Jersey


Apr 21, 2009 (M2 EQUITYBITES via COMTEX) -- VeriChip Corporation (Nasdaq:CHIP), a provider of radio frequency identification (RFID) systems for healthcare and patient-related needs, on 20 April announced the sale of its VeriTrace system for disaster relief and emergency management needs to Atlantic and Mercer counties in New Jersey, US.A The company said that the VeriTrace system was created in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina where it proved helpful in identifying, tracking and accounting for the remains of victims from the hurricane.



VeriTrace, which uses implantable RFID technology, was used by the Federal Disaster Mortuary Operational Response Team (DMORT) during Hurricane Katrina recovery operations.A The VeriTrace system includes a unique implantable RFID microchip, a VeriTrace Bluetooth handheld reader, a customised Ricoh 500SE Digital Camera capable of receiving both RFID scanned data and GPS data wirelessly, and a Web-enabled database for gathering and storing information and images captured during emergency response operations.

This database ensures the precise collection, storage and inventory of all data and images related to remains and the associated evidentiary items, the company said.A Financial details of the order were not available.
