GENBAND Enhances Market Leading G9 Converged Gateway

PLANO, Texas --(Business Wire)-- GENBAND Inc., a market-leading developer of next-generation IP infrastructure solutions, today announced the addition of several significant features to its G9™ Converged Gateway that help drive migration to all-IP next generation networks such as LTE. These new features include support for IPv6, CDMA, and satellite networks, IP transcoding and enterprise femtocells.

Support for IPv6 enables network interoperability per 3GPP, 3GPP2 and IETF standards, and is being mandated as IPv4 addresses near exhaustion. The G9's new CDMA and satellite capabilities add to its extensive GSM, UMTS and IMS network capabilities. Further enhancing its value, the G9 is now able to directly transcode IP sessions between these networks, enabling high quality interconnection for network operators.

GENBAND is also adding support for enterprise femtocell functionality, providing seamless mobility within small and medium enterprises. These enhancements to the G9 are particularly relevant for the European and Asian Femto markets, where enterprise demand for comprehensive indoor coverage is the strongest. The new G9 Converged Gateway will be featured at CTIA Wireless 2009, April 1 - 3, in Las Vegas, at Booth 6906.

"Our G9 Gateway plays a major role in mobile growth and provides a powerful strategic platform for continued innovation as we support our customers' wide range of IP networking and application needs, whether wireless or wireline, IPv4 or IPv6 based, or interworking between the different network types," said Keith Landau, Executive Vice President of Research and Development at GENBAND. "The G9 gateway's unique distributed and decoupled architecture delivers high-performance IP packet capabilities as networks migrate to IP at the access layer and in the core." "GENBAND's continued investments and enhancements to its flagship G9 platform are robust and comprehensive," said Joe McGarvey, Principal Analyst with Current Analysis. "While already prominent in femtocell deployments and carrier migrations to IP, the G9 significantly solidifies its position with these strategic transcoding, interconnection and capacity enhancements. In keeping with the G9 tradition, the new features also further reduce CapEx and OpEx for carriers by maximizing existing assets and reducing requirements to purchase additional hardware." GENBAND's G9™ Converged Gateway is a high-density, carrier class trunking, access and signaling gateway that is purpose-built for use in mobile, fixed line and converged operators' packet and circuit-switched networks. The G9's flexible 28-slot chassis provides a low power, efficient card design that is simple to maintain and operate, allowing operators to easily add ports and IP session capacity as well as incremental features. The platform's many integrated features and functions helps to reduce service provider costs by limiting the number of new elements in the network. Support for both mobile and fixed codecs, protocols and interfaces allow the G9 to be the key network element in next generation solutions.
