'Telekom Austria completes new Aconet infrastructure'

(DMeurope Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The Austrian science network Aconet has activated its network infrastructure, provided by Telekom Austria, in the beginning of this year. Telekom Austria won the contract to deploy a new network from the University of Vienna in 2007 and Aconet currently offers 40 times 10 Gbps as bandwidth. The network connects all Austrian research locations using fibre networks and is connected to European science and research network Geant. The new Aconet backbone is expected to last 10 to 15 years, enabling large data volumes to be used for scientific research around Austria. Aconet currently offers network switches in Vienna, Linz, Salzburg, Innsbruck, Dornbirn, Klagenfurt, Leoben, Graz and Eisenstadt and is preparing to deploy switches in St. Poelten and Krems.
