Women business association formed in Afghan northern province

KABUL, Mar 08, 2009 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- Women in Afghanistan's northern Kunduz province on Sunday established a business association to enhance economic activities, chief of the Women Affairs Department in the province Nadira Joya said.

"The aim of formation of the association is to observe International Women's Day and enhance women economic activities in order to boost their income," Joya told Xinhua.

She said that the association would encourage women to get involvement in carpet weaving, embroidery, agriculture and poultry and supply their products to bazaar in order to improve their families'living standard.

The status of women in the post-Taliban Afghanistan has been very much improved as Afghan women nowadays are involved in political, social and economic activities.

There is a female cabinet minister in President Hamid Karzai's government while dozens others are in parliament or serving as ambassadors representing Afghanistan abroad.
