Funnyman can fix a dishwasher with Kool-Aid: Joey Green bringing his home-improvement methods to Home & Lifestyle Expo(Albuquerque Journal (NM) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Feb. 21--The terms "funny" and "home improvement" are rarely used together, unless you're Joey Green, a celebrity speaker and author who will be at the ABQ Home & Lifestyle Expo today and Sunday. Green, dubbed "America's Mad Scientist of Home Improvement," will demonstrate homeimprovement techniques such as: how to fix a broken dishwasher with Kool-Aid, clean driveway oil spills with Coca-Cola, remove wallpaper with Heinz white vinegar and unclog a drain with Jell-O. "It's funny because some of these uses are so offbeat and outlandish," Green said in a telephone interview. "But a lot of it is really practical and makes doing household chores more amusing." The ABQ Home & Lifestyle Expo is one of several events coming to New Mexico in the next few months designed to give consumers home-improvement advice and resources. Green, who just released the book "Joey Green's Fix-it Magic," has persuaded Jay Leno to shave with Jif peanut butter, Barbara Walters to put a wet Pampers diaper on her head and Rosie O'Donnell to mousse her hair with Jell-O. The 45-minute performances are scheduled at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. today and 12:30 p.m. Sunday. Green said each show will be different and will cover dozens of strange fix-it ideas. "A lot of it is stuff that grandma told you, but you said, 'What do you know?' " The ABQ Home & Lifestyle Expo, held each spring and fall at the Manuel Lujan Jr. Exhibit Complex at EXPO New Mexico, attracts 15,000 to 20,000 attendees, boasts 300 booths and showcases various internationally recognized speakers. "Joey Green is a riot, and I can't wait to get him here," said Ken Lucas, president of Lucas Productions, the company that produces the shows each year. "We try and time our speakers with what's going on. Things are tough right now so we thought 'let's have some fun.' " The show will include remodelers, plumbers, electricians, countertop companies, a pet section, health and wellness products and companies, furniture, pools, spas, sunrooms, and environmentally friendly companies and products. There will also be live demonstrations and entertainment. "This show has anything and everything a person would look for to make their life more convenient," said Lucas. "And if you need an electrician, you're there meeting the owner of the company. You get to establish who they are and what they're all about before they come into your home."
