Wendigo Studios wins the $5000 prix spcial Ingenio

MONTREAL, July 6 /CNW Telbec/ - The $5000 Prix Spcial Ingenio for the best interactive multimedia entertainment project, offered for the 7th consecutive year in the Qubec Entrepreneurship Contest, has been awarded to Wendigo Studios. The name of the winning company was announced at the evening Provincial and International Grand Prize Gala on June 19 at the Capitole de Qubec, where 58 prizes were awarded for a total of $300,000 in grants.



Wendigo Studios is a young company rooted in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region whose mission is to create, produce and distribute interactive video games throughout the world. "This is an entrepreneurial project that brings the region together, inasmuch as its developers took the time to rally all the pertinent local resources and create the kind of synergy needed for successful development," commented Ingenio's managing director Nathalie Rajotte, who also acted as president of the jury awarding the Loto-Qubec research and development subsidiary's special prize.

Founded by 6 Universit du Qubec Chicoutimi (UQAC) seniors, Wendigo Studios offers, in addition to video game production, e-commerce services and interactive systems development. "In November 2005, when we were in our final year of study in video game design at UQAC, we attended the Montreal International Game Summit, where the idea of starting our own enterprise was born," explains ric Trudel, Wendigo Studios' CEO. Only eight months later, the young company needed to hire three more employees.
