CCTV Likely to Launch IPTV First in Changchun


(SinoCast Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) BEIJING, Dec 08, 2006 (SinoCast via COMTEX) --Changchun, capital of northeastern Chinese province of Jilin, has received preliminary appproval from the State Administration of Radio Film and Television (SARFT), which will make it the first city in the country to commercially apply thestate-run CCTV's Internet Protocol Television (IPTV).



It will emerge as the third city to put IPTV into commercial use in China.

In charge of IPTV for CCTV, CCTV International is preparing for developing domestic IPTV market and taking the preemptive opportunities, having been already starting its business distribution around the nation.


CCTV International negotiated with China Netcom to boost IPTV experimental network in several northern cities, along with a few southern cities in Hubei and Jiangsu.

IPTV is now still in commencement period in China, attracting more and more telecom carriers and operators to invest in. With the rapid global growth of IPTV, China is expected to hold over 20 million IPTV users by 2010, sources said.
