(The Monitor (Uganda) Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) Gordon Wavamunno is not a man you can ignore when you talk about business in town. A man who started as a taxi driver now makes every new number plate in the country. He owns Spear motors company, WBS television and provides first aid to many under his chairmanship of St. Johns Ambulance Uganda. Wavamunno attributes his success to one strategy, putting eggs in different baskets.

James Mulwana is the Managing Director of Nice House of Plastics Limited, which has been in the plastics manufacturing industry since 1970. Mulwana is a founder member of two other sister companies: Uganda Batteries Ltd and Jesa Farm Dairy Ltd. He has excellent management experience and business acumen, which have earned him chairmanship in various organisations including Standard Chartered Bank, Private Sector Foundation Uganda and East Africa Business Council.

David D. Cutting is the Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Bank. He is also on the board of the Institute of Bankers. Cutting loves all categories of people and will do what it take to help them live a descent life.


Hassan Bassajjabalaba. The hides and skin business has earned him millions of shillings and made him popular in the city. His company the Regency Group has a number of buildings in town. He is also the chairman of Board of Trustees at Kampala International University.

Alam Abid is the Chairman of Alam Group of Companies and Casement (Africa) Limited. His position as the chairman of Uganda Manufacturers' Association gives him chance to give proposals on the national economy before policies are made. He is one of the people who protested the increase of power tariffs.

Patrick Bitature is one of the youthful and successful entrepreneurs in the city. Bitature is the proprietor of Simba Telcom, a company that deals in mobile phones located on Kampala Road. He is also the man behind Dembe FM and the chairman of Gifted by Nature, Uganda's brand Image aimed at marketing the country abroad.

Sudir Ruparelia is a Kampala property magnet. Ruparelia is the managing director of Meera Investments which owns Speke Resort Hotel Munyonyo, Speke Hotel, Nile Resort Hotel, Crane Bank, Crane Forex Bureau, Rosebud Flower Farm, Sanyu FM, Kabira International School and Kabira Country Club in Bukoto.

Geoffrey Kirumira is a veteran businessman in Kampala. Kirumira owns a number of commercial buildings in the city including the famous Kirumira Towers and Royal Complex located in the heart of the city.

Hajji Kaddu Kiberu the proprietor of Peacock Paints has been instrumental in the manufacturing sector. He was party to the building of a permanent venuefor the trade fair at Lugogo.

Hassan Ibnul Rizvi is the chief executive officer of Mukwano Group of Companies. Ibnul is one of the few exporters who pushed for the review of Rwanda, Burundi Free Trade Agreement early this year so as to waive customs duties and enable exports from Uganda enter Rwanda and Burundi markets freely.

Andrew Kasagga a.k.a Zzimwe started with a tiny hardware shop near Nakasero Market. He now owns a construction company. His success has earned him construction contracts from the government and private sector. He once dealt in marketing of cotton and coffee. Kasagga is also a lover of sports. Since 1980, Kasagga has been and is still one of the leading financiers of Sports Club Villa.

Yesse Oenga is the Managing Director of Celtel Uganda. Before he was appointed MD for Celtel Uganda, he worked as marketing director of Celtel Tanzania. His leadership has made life better for Celtel customers in East Africa. Customers can now make calls to any country in East Africa. Countries.

Karim Hirji is the brain behind the luxurious Imperial Group of Hotels in the city centre and Entebbe. They include Grand Imperial Hotel, Hotel Equatoria, Botanical Imperial Hotel Entebbe, Imperial Resort Beach Hotel and Imperial Royale Hotel, which is still under construction. Karim is also the proprietor of Didi's World, an amusement Park in Kansanga.

Noel Meier is the chief executive officer of MTN Uganda. He took over from Mr Tom Bragaw a couple of years ago. With a million customers to look after, no one can ignore his presence in the business sector.

Richard Byarugaba is the managing director of Nile Bank. Byarugaba is a type of manager who takes time off his busy schedule to find out whether customers are served well. If the Automatic Teller Machines get a technical problem, you cannot miss seeing Byarugaba moving up and down to ensure that every thing gets back to normal.

Former mayor John Sebaana Kizito owns a number of commercial houses in the city and its suburbs including Sure House located next to Kampala Pentecostal Church on Bombo road. Ssebaana is also the owner of Statewide Insurance Company.

Issa Ssekitto the spokesperson of Kampala City Traders' Association is the mouthpiece of traders in Kampala. He is the main man in negotiations between traders and different stakeholders. He campaigned for the removal of vendors from the streets.

Pastor Peter Ssematimba has influenced many young businessmen through his talk-shows in the media. He first worked as a presenter on CBS FM before starting his own radio Super FM.

Ssematimba recently advised pastors not only to concentrate on preaching but also engage in business.

Dr Maggie Kigozi the executive director of Uganda Investment Authority comes from a family of coffee farmers. Her being in the investment business is not a miracle to those who have known her family. She always advises women to engage in commercial business instead of waiting for their husbands to provide for them.

Nick Mbuvi is the managing director of Barclays Bank. Mbuvi's leadership has seen the bank introduce more convenient products for customers such as the Single Fee Account and Single Fee Current Account to give customers an option of choosing the products that suit them.

Aga Ssekalala Junior is the managing director of UgaChick and Radio Simba which employ many people. They are some of the people who first invested in the vanila business.

Kitili Mbathi is the managing director of Stanbic Bank Uganda. Following the February 2002 acquisition of Uganda Commercial Bank, which was under central bank statutory management, Stanbic has transformed from a two-branch corporate bank into a nationwide corporate and retail bank.

Killian Lugwe is the General Manager of Kampala Serena Hotel. The hotel belongs to His highness the Agha Khan and it was launched on November 10 in the presence of President Yoweri Museveni.

Medie Sebaggala is the man behind the famous Sebaggala and Sons Electrical Centre on Kiyembe Lane.

Kiganda Twaha Ssonko is the managing Director of Joyinter Investments Limited, dealers in Cargo transportation and general merchandise. Ssonko is also the man behind the modern Alpes Internet Caf located on Maria's Galleria's Building next to Radio One.

Mahhood Ssekimpi is managing director of Prime Forex Bureau located on Kampala near Orient Bank.

Olive Kigongo is serving her fifth term as the president of Uganda National Chambers of Commerce and Industry. She is a wife to the NRM vice chairman, Alhajji Moses Kigongo.

Julius Bagonza is the chairman of Hotel and Catering Association of Uganda and a member of a committee set up to handle hotel grading and classification in East Africa. He is known for pushing for hoteliers to allow their employees to form trade unions.

Sarah Kizito the wife to Kampala Central Division Chairman Godfrey Nyakana, is the owner of Lady Challotte boutique and Centenary Park Gardens, which is being upgraded to serve as a green zone for people to rest. She is famous for dressing brides.

S.C Sharma is the regional director of Mehta Group, which scooped this year's prestigious award of Uganda Manufacturers' Association for being the best exhibitor of the Uganda International Trade Fair. The trade fair attracted about 700 companies from 20 countries.

Racheal Lubega is the director of MS Events, the events planning specialists located at Baumann House; Parliament Avenue. Lubega has successfully organised events for a number of government ministries, non governmental organisation and schools. If you happen to attend the centennial dinner and centenary celebrations of St Mary's College Kisubi, you will be able to tell how organised her company is.

Bulaimu Kibirige Muwanga a.k.a BMK is the Chairman of Uganda hotel Owners' Association and the proprietor of Hotel Africana. He is also into the construction business. He imports spare parts of cars and motorcycles. People near him say customers "come as guests but leave as friends" due the affable services he provides. Bulaimu is also owns BMK Health club, BMK Heavy Machinery, BMK Industries (manufacturers of polythene bags), BMK Nairobi, BMK Tanzania, BMK Zambia and other prime property in Uganda. He has made a lot of money from selling auto parts and motorcycles.
