Verizon Wireless Brings 'COW' to Spring Carlisle Collector Car Classic

CARLISLE, Pa., April 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon Wireless has brought a temporary cell site - called a COW, or Cell On Wheels - to Carlisle to provide additional network calling capacity for the thousands of people expected to flock to the region to enjoy the Spring Carlisle Collector Car event, which takes place April 19-23.

The service enhancement means that more customers can use the Verizon Wireless network concurrently to make calls, send and receive text and picture messaging, and download games and ringtones.
"Spring Carlisle attracts thousands of visitors, and that means additional demand for wireless service," said Roger Tang - president, Ohio/Pennsylvania Region, Verizon Wireless. "Our COW enables us to meet that temporary increase in call volume and provide our customers with the high-quality service they expect from Verizon Wireless."
The ability to meet additional call volume demand is part of the company's commitment to stay ahead of the growing need for Verizon Wireless' voice and data services. The company has invested $30 billion in the last six years - $5 billion on average every year since the company was formed - to increase the coverage and capacity of its national network and to add new services. In 2005, Verizon Wireless invested $240 million in its Pennsylvania network.
