DataDirect Technologies to Present on Upcoming XQuery Update facilities at Extreme Markup Languages 2005 Conference

Bedford, MA -- (Aug 03, 2005) -- MEDIA ALERT

WHAT: In the real world, data is not read-only. While XQuery provides an excellent model for simple and powerful updates to XML, updates are missing from XQuery 1.0. Several vendors are implementing their own proprietary extensions to provide update, and several update proposals have circulated within the W3C XML Query Working Group and at various conferences. Join XQuery authors Jonathan Robie (DataDirect Technologies) and Daniela Florescu (Oracle Corporation) for a talk about their recently published requirements document which discusses various approaches to adding an Update Facility to XQuery. After identifying some of the major questions associated with this work and exploring the problem space and solution space without attempting to predict the answers that the Working Group will find, speakers hope to get feedback from the XML community to bring back into the XQuery Update work.
