CompUSA Announces Next Steps in Good Guys Retail Strategy


DALLAS --(Business Wire)-- April 1, 2005 -- CompUSA(R) today announced the next steps in its retail strategy concerning Good Guys, a high-end home electronic chain acquired by the Dallas-based company in December of 2003.

"The next steps in our Good Guys retail strategy will help us reach that vision, and reflect the refinement of our overall business model."



The next steps announced today include:

-- Combination CompUSA/Good Guys stores -- By June 1, the company will open 17 combination CompUSA/Good Guys stores in California by converting 14 current Good Guys retail locations and 3 current CompUSA locations. These new stores are designed to meet the increasingly diverse buying needs of customers wanting more choice by offering them a mix of both CompUSA and Good Guys merchandise.


"Product and technology convergence is continually increasing and customers are looking for answers," said Mondry. "Our new combination unleashes the power of technology for our customers through a broader range of products, and unmatched expertise from our CompUSA and Good Guys' highly trained and technology-savvy staff."

Mondry added that in addition to the store-level changes, the CompUSA merchandising department has joined forces with the Good Guys buying and merchandising team. "This newly formed department will provide the best selection of products available, capitalizing on the expertise and buying power of both teams."

In addition, approximately 50 other Good Guys stores will continue operating, while one lease will not be renewed and the location will close.
