Clicklab Releases White Paper on Click Fraud as Google Files First Click Fraud Lawsuit against AdSense Publisher

MIAMI --(Business Wire)-- Nov. 29, 2004 -- Clicklab, a leader in the emerging field of click fraud detection and prevention, announced the release and general availability of the white paper "How to Defend Your Website Against Click Fraud."

The white paper is released shortly after Google has filed first-of-a-kind click fraud lawsuit against AdSense publisher. The lawsuit filed in a California Superior Court, alleges that a Texas-based website publisher generated fake clicks on its AdSense ads and paid a number of individuals to do the same.

Earlier this year, a California programmer was indicted for allegedly attempting to extort $100,000 from Google to prevent him from releasing Google Clique, the software he wrote to generate fake clicks on AdSense ads.

"As old as online advertising business itself, click fraud poses a significant threat to every player in the pay-per-click (PPC) industry," said Clicklab CEO Dmitri Eroshenko, "But unfortunately there isn't enough information sharing between the search networks, advertisers, and vendors to understand the true scale of the problem."

Some of Clicklab clients, according to Eroshenko, estimate that up to 50% of PPC traffic in certain competitive categories is illegitimate.

This white paper expands on what is known about click fraud and outlines the steps PPC advertisers can take to protect their investment:

-- What do you really need to know about PPC advertising and its vulnerabilities

-- Why do people steal

-- Who benefits from the different types of click fraud and how it's perpetrated

-- How to analyze website traffic for inflation and fraud

-- Strategies and tactics to minimize exposure and damages
