Vizient Partners with the Huggies Brand to Raise Member Awareness for Diaper Need at the 2017 Clinical Connections Summit

During its annual Clinical Connections Summit, being held Sept. 13-14 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, Vizient, Inc. is partnering with the Huggies No Baby Unhugged initiative to donate 10,000 diapers to The Bottom Line diaper bank in Denver.

According to a 2010 study commissioned by Huggies, one in three U.S. families struggle to provide fresh, clean diapers for their babies. As part of this year's member volunteer activity at the Vizient Clinical Connection Summit, attendees can package the diapers for delivery, and for each person who volunteers Huggies will donate an additional day's supply of diapers to The Bottom Line diaper bank.

"This community service project is a great fit for our event. It serves to raise awareness for diaper need nationally among our members and enables Vizient and event attendees to make a positive impact in the Denver community," said Pete Allen, executive vice president, sourcing operations at Vizient. "Kimberly-Clark, parent company of Huggies, is a Vizient awarded supplier and participates in our Preferred Pediatric Program. We are grateful to Huggies for their diaper donation and support for our event."

The effects of diaper need lead to increased stress for parents and families on many levels. Diapers and baby wipes are not covered under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) also known as food stamps or the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) special supplemental nutrition program, which means parents often have to choose between paying for food or purchasing diapers. Additionally, without diapers, babies cannot participate in early childhood education programs or daycare leading parents to miss work to care for them.

"At Huggies we know how critically important diapers are to a family's well-being, and that is why we are committed to working with the National Diaper Bank Network and partners like Vizient to raise awareness for this issue," said Giusy Buonfantino, president of Kimberly-Clark Baby and Child Care North America. "Over the last six years Huggies has donated more than 200 million diapers and wipes to families in need, and we thank the Vizient team for helping us continue to support these families."

Huggies is the founding sponsor of the National Diaper Bank Network (NDBN), a nonprofit organization that works with more than 300 community-based diaper banks around the country and serves nearly 280,000 children each month.
