TVCC holds regular monthly meeting

GOODY, Ky., Nov 14, 2012 (Williamson Daily News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The Tug Valley Chamber of Commerce (TVCC) held its regular monthly meeting for November on Tuesday at the Thoroughbred Steakhouse.

TVCC President Charley McCoy started the meeting by asking for a moment of silence to honor the nation's veterans. The meetings are usually held on Mondays, but this assembly was moved to Tuesday because of Veterans Day.

The guest speaker was Matt Ellis of the Air Evac Life Team based in Logan.

Ellis told those in attendance that his company is an emergency medical helicopter service. They can be in the Williamson area in eight minutes.

He talked about the importance of quick response time in certain traumatic injuries and transporting the patients to the right facility within the "Golden Hour." The Air Evac team based at the Logan County Airport is teamed with flight paramedics, flight nurses and licensed pilots. The company serves all of the counties in southern West Virginia, which includes Mingo.

He said a bill for transporting a patient via a helicopter for around $20,000. He said the company offers an affordable once year rate for only $60. This covers an entire household, regardless of how many persons live in that home.

Ellis said the Air Evac Life Team can fly patients to Huntington, Charleston, or even to hospitals in places like Morgantown and Pittsburgh.

His company is also linked with similar emergency flight crews all across the country.

In other business the TVCC announced its continued support of the Tug Valley Road Runners Club. That group will hold another seasonal 5-k race this Saturday in West Williamson starting at 12 noon. Registration begins at 10 a.m. The Thanksgiving themed race has been dubbed the Gobble Wobble 5-K.

McCoy also talked briefly for the Tourism Committee chairman Bob Scott. Scott was unable to attend the TVCC meeting because he was having a phone conference with producers from the National Geographic channel. More information will be released on this undertaking in the near future.

McCoy also said the chamber is buying a new computer with software so that the office can design and make its own brochures. TVCC Director Natalie Young is in charge of that project.
