Speakers from JPMorgan Chase, Progressive Insurance, Target and More Announced for OpenStack® Summit in May

Speakers who build and operate infrastructure from Google, JPMorgan Chase, Progressive Insurance and Target (News - Alert) will share their experiences at the OpenStack Open Infrastructure Summit happening May 21-24 at the Vancouver Convention Centre in Vancouver, British Columbia. Other notable speakers include AT&T, China Unicom, Hyper HQ, Oath Inc., Paddy Power Betfair, ARM, Verizon (News - Alert), Walmart, Wells Fargo and many more.

While a dramatic increase in open source usage in recent years has allowed companies to do more, integrating the many different components remains a challenge. The Summit is focused on helping users compose, integrate, and operate these different technologies to solve real problems at scale. In addition to sessions on OpenStack, there will be featured sessions on the newest project at the Foundation-Kata Containers-and a strong focus on other open source technologies relevant to infrastructure operators, including Kubernetes, Docker, Ansible, Ceph, Istio, Envoy, Spinnaker, OpenContrail, ONAP, OPNFV and many more.

The full event agenda is organized by use cases, including AI and machine learning; edge computing; NFV; CI/CD; container infrastructure; and public, private and multi-cloud strategies.

Featured sessions include:

  • Google (News - Alert)-Google's Gregory Wolgemuth and OpenStack ambassador Stacy Veronneau will demonstrate how to build a responsive hybrid cloud where Google Cloud Platform and OpenStack will provide the public and private halves of the cloud configuration, while Kubernetes and Istio will be used to provide federated control.
  • Wells Fargo-Alain Swanson and Ty Workman from Wells Fargo will cover how they have scaled OpenStack, including a deep dive into their network configuration.
  • Intel (News - Alert)-Sebastien Boeuf, a software engineer at Intel, will provide a walkthrough of Kata Containers' unique architecture, explain how it integrates with OpenStack and other cloud software stacks, and discuss storage and networking more speifically.
  • China Mobile (News - Alert)-Qiao Fu, project manager at China Mobile, will explore the future network framework nationwide at China Mobile and the architecture, design and requirements for edge cloud.
  • Progressive Insurance-Virtualization engineer Jeff Maruschek and cloud engineer Rick Bliss will share how the team at Progressive Insurance is leveraging the open APIs of OpenStack to provide the instrumentation to lead Progressive into the next generation of data analytics.
  • JPMorgan Chase-Amol Chobe, VP of Cloud Services at JPMorgan Chase, will lead a workshop about the integration of Kubernetes and OpenStack with Calico for common networking operations.
  • Oath Inc.-Jacob Estele, software engineer at Oath Inc., will explain how their team performed a skip-level upgrade of 20,000 cores from Juno to Ocata with minimal downtime.
  • ARM-Kevin Zhao, software engineer at ARM, will demonstrate how to leverage Kubernetes as the orchestration layer and use Kubernetes to provision containers using OpenStack Zun.

Summit attendees will also learn about the latest OpenStack release, Queens (released on February 28), as well as progress on Kata Containers, directly from the contributors to each project. OpenStack operators and upstream developers will gather in collaborative sessions at the Forum to jointly chart the long-term future of the project and discuss topics ranging from fast-forward upgrades to networking models and how to contribute.

About OpenStack®

OpenStack is the standard for private clouds and is also available as a service via dozens of public cloud providers around the world. At its core, OpenStack is an open source integration engine that provides APIs to orchestrate bare metal, virtual machine and container resources on a single network. The same OpenStack code powers a global network of public and private clouds, backed by the largest ecosystem of technology providers, to enable cost savings, control and portability.

OpenStack is a global community of more than 87,000 individuals across 187 countries supported by the OpenStack Foundation, which facilitates the development of many innovative projects in the open infrastructure space. The community delivers two OpenStack software releases each year, which are Apache 2 licensed and productized by a large ecosystem of technology vendors in our Marketplace. For more information and to join the community, visit www.OpenStack.org.
