Partner follows Bezeq's lead on free Internet upgrade


Feb 19, 2013 (Globes - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- After Bezeq Israeli Telecommunication Co. Ltd. (TASE: BEZQ) announced yesterday that it will automatically upgrade subscribers' Internet access speed to 15 Mbps for free, Orange franchisee Partner Communications Ltd. (Nasdaq: PTNR; TASE: PTNR) and its Internet services provider (ISP) subsidiary 012 Smile Telecom Ltd. announced that all their customers who use the infrastructures of Bezeq and Hot Telecommunication Systems Ltd. (TASE: HOT.B1) will benefit from the upgrade for free.



Partner VP fixed line division and Smile CEO Ori Watermann said, "Professional proactive service is an integral part of the service that we provide our customers. In addition, as a leading full-service telecommunications company, we allow our customers to enjoy high-quality advanced technology, which will be made available to them as needed." All customers will enjoy a gradual upgrade at the ISP's initiative without any need to contact the company. Customers with an Internet plan with less than 5-mega bandwidth will be upgraded to 5-Mbps access speed, and customers with an Internet plan of more than 5-mega bandwidth will be upgraded to 12 or 15-Mbps access speed, depending on infrastructure purchased.

The upgrade will be implemented in stages over the next two months, and the carrier will notify customers via e-mail, SMS, and monthly bills.
