NGINX Continues APAC Expansion with New Tokyo Office; Hires Takeshi Nakajima as Country Manager

NGINX, Inc., the company based on the popular open source project and offering a suite of technologies for developing and delivering modern applications, today announced an expanded international presence with the establishment of an office in Tokyo, Japan. Following on the heels of a successful APAC launch in Australia and Singapore last year, the new office will provide local language and technical resources to NGINX customers and partners in Japan.

With 2018 as its largest year of growth to date, NGINX has more than tripled its business in the last three years, including 100 percent revenue growth among the Global 2000. In Japan, NGINX has experienced an exponential rise in market, with 1,000 percent growth since 2014 in the number of websites running NGINX technology.* This high-growth path paves the way for substantial investment from the company in the Japanese market, which is expected to become NGINX's fourth largest market.

The Tokyo location will be led by Takeshi Nakajima, who joins NGINX from Canonical. Previously, Nakajima served as the General Manager of Midokura, where he oversaw sales, partnerships, and marketing for the APAC region. Nakajima spent the majority of his career at Sony Corporation, where he served as manager of several product lines, including the VAIO Business Group, before joining Evernote (News - Alert) as the VP of Japanese Operations.

"NGINX is an established, well-respected company with significant visibility in APAC," said Nakajima. "I'm looking forward to woking with the team to expand the organization and offerings in Japan, while providing technical support and unparalleled technology to our customers in this innovative region."

NGINX currently works with over 1,600 customers, including three of the five largest global banks, three of the five largest U.S. retailers, and five of the ten largest technology companies. In Japan, NGINX already has existing relationships with the largest companies. In addition, NGINX will continue to expand its partner program in the region, working with existing partners like SIOS Technologies and Macnica Networks Inc. to target enterprises in the technology (ecommerce, gaming, media, etc.), telecommunications, manufacturing, and financial services industries.

"I spent many years of my career in Japan and have a personal connection to the market. I'm thrilled that we're growing our presence as it's critical to our long-term vision for Asia. By establishing a presence in Tokyo, we'll be able to better serve our customers and partners," said Gus Robertson, CEO of NGINX, Inc. "The timing is perfect as Japanese companies are just now exploring microservices, a journey we can help them accelerate. Given these trends and based on our current momentum, we are poised for high growth thanks to our experienced local leadership team and anticipate that Japan will become the fourth largest market for NGINX."
