NEC opens Yangon and Naypyidaw offices in Myanmar

Aug 19, 2013 (MarketLine via COMTEX) -- NEC Corporation, an IT and network solutions provider and systems integrator, has announced the official opening of its Yangon and Naypyidaw offices in Myanmar.

NEC's more than 35 years of experience with Myanmar's communications infrastructure, including telephone switchboards, wireless equipment, satellite ground stations and broadcasting systems, has set a strong foundation to continue its support of the country's technological progress, the company said.

"There is tremendous growth potential in Myanmar and this is an opportune moment for NEC to contribute to the country's IT needs. NEC will focus on providing key international communication networks, such as submarine cable systems, ICT infrastructure for industrial parks, disaster prevention systems, security systems, e-government systems and mass-market IT solutions," said Mr Takayuki Morita, senior vice president, NEC Corporation. "Following the establishment of a Yangon office in February 2013, NEC has been aiming for opportunities to contribute further to local development." On May 14 of 2013, Sumitomo Corporation and NEC, in cooperation with NTT Communications Corporation, made a contract with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar (Myanmar) in support of the country's 'Project for Urgent Improvement of Communication Networks.' This plan includes communications infrastructure consisting of a high-speed, high-capacity core optical transmission network capable of transmitting 30Gbps between the cities of Yangon, Mandalay and Naypyidaw, as well as LTE communications to provide coverage between sites of the SEA Games 2013. The systems are expected to be completed by November 2013, followed by technical training and operation assistance. The offices in Myanmar will be headed by Mr Yasushi Teranishi, Global Business Unit, Greater China and Asia Pacific Division, the company added.
