NatureDose builds on over 500 peer-reviewed scientific studies that have demonstrated clear benefits from time outdoors. Those studies show that increasing one's time exposed to natural environments can have profound, positive health effects, from a stronger immune system and reduced anxiety in adults to better eyesight and brain development in children. In short, the studies prove that nature exposure can result in a longer, healthier, and even happier life. As mentioned in the Wall Street Journal's "Future of Everything" article, NatureDose offers an antidote to today's technostress and screen addiction by helping users unplug for at least a few minutes each day.

In addition, the company names mobile and technology industry pioneer, Katie McMahon, and ecological engineer and Internet of Nature founder, Dr. Nadina Galle, as advisors. With these additions, NatureQuant is poised to accelerate the development of tools and interventions to help mitigate the negative health impact of humanity's increasing nature deficit.

About NatureDose:

  • Using a patent-pending technology, NatureDose can track a customized weekly nature prescription in minutes (a "NatureDose")
    • Provides daily NatureDose breakdown
    • Compares week-to-week nature exposure
    • Determines approximate indoor versus outdoor time by week
  • Users can set customized weekly NatureDose targets (for example, 120 minutes per week)
  • NatureDose provides helpful tips, suggestions, and facts to optimize users' time outdoors
  • Determine the relative amount of health supporting nature for any location (a "NatureScore")
    • Determines the highest NatureScore location by week

"While the health benefits of time in nature are generally accepted, and many doctors are already prescribing time outside, there was no scalable or convenient way to measure or motivate nature exposure. A simple walk in the park can really decrease your stress and lower your blood pressure, but without a nudge we were finding that many people spent days on end without ever going outside. Time in nature is a powerful, safe, and free health intervention we should all be utilizing," said Jared Hanley, co-founder and CEO of NatureQuant. "We are excited to launch NatureDose direct-to-consumers and to gain the strategic and executional expertise of industry trailblazers Katie McMahon and Nadina Galle as advisors to the NatureQuant team."

As strategic advisors to the company, Katie McMahon and Nadina Galle add technology industry and scientific expertise, respectively, to the NatureQuant team. McMahon brings over 20 years of global experience building technology start-ups into iconic consumer products and developing enterprise platform partnerships. She led Shazam's breakout success as one of the first apps to launch on the iPhone and guided the product as it became a beloved utility that is now both integrated across iOS devices and offered to developers and creators through Apple's ShazamKit.

"NatureQuant's unique approach of synthesizing technologies, machine learning, and big-data to assess time spent outdoors gives a powerful platform for industries, enterprises, and individuals to improve health and mental wellness," said Katie McMahon, strategic advisor. "By launching the NatureDose mobile app, an easy and delightful way to measure your time spent outdoors, we are seeding what will become a mass-market habit of getting your NatureDose."

Dr. Nadina Galle researches, develops, and brings to market emerging technologies to restore and reconnect city dwellers to the natural world, a concept she coined in her PhD dissertation "Internet of Nature." Galle is a TEDx and keynote speaker, a fervent STEM communicator, host of the Internet of Nature Podcast and a former Fulbright Scholar at MIT Senseable City Lab, where she holds a research affiliation. Forbes and Elsevier have selected her for their respective "30 under 30" lists. Galle brings her expertise as an ecological engineer to the NatureQuant team. Based in Amsterdam, Galle is positioned to accelerate NatureQuant's market position across Europe.

"Across Europe, both public and private sectors are pushing for greener cities, but when, where, and how to prioritize so-called nature-based solutions remains a challenge. Simultaneously, more and more doctors are prescribing nature to patients to support health and well-being, especially amid the pandemic, but the optimal dose is still up for debate," said Nadina Galle, scientific advisor. "I'm thrilled to join the NatureQuant team to develop and scale the much-needed tools to address these issues and get city dwellers outside."

The NatureDose App can be downloaded on Apple's App Store and Google's Play Store. For more information on NatureQuant, including white papers on nature as medicine, please visit: https://www.naturequant.com.
