Moon domestic incident leads to drug, weapons charges

MOON TWP., Jan 02, 2013 (Beaver County Times - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A couple staying at a Moon Township hotel New Years Day had their accommodations moved to the Allegheny County Jail after they were arrested on drugs and weapons charges.

Moon police said the Pittsburgh woman and Penn Hills man came to their attention around 10:20 p.m. when the woman called from the Crowne Plaza Hotel on Thorn Run Road Extension to say her boyfriend had assaulted her and threatened her with a handgun.

Phalonda Janee Pollard, 19, of 1608 Chateau St. met police at the front desk and told them William Richard Jackson Bosley, 30, of 2884 Laketon Road had grabbed her by the throat and chest area during an argument earlier in the evening and pointed a handgun at her head. She warned officers Bosley might be on his way to the lobby.

As they standing at the front desk, Bosley entered the lobby and officers took him into custody and searched him, but found no weapons on him. Bosley denied having any guns, and Pollard then told police she had only called for help getting her cell phone back.

Police said Pollard admitted she called them after she became mad with the front desk clerk for giving Bosley her phone, which had been behind the desk. She later told police she was the one who had hit Bosley after he said something disrespectful to her in their room.

Officers found the phone on Bosley and returned it to Pollard and then handcuffed her on a charge of making false reports to police.

Officers became suspicious more might be going on, however, when both said they had not rented the room where they were staying. Bosley said it was rented by his cousin "Mariano." The hotel reported the name on the registry was Marino Soto, no age or address released.

Because of the disruptive nature of the incident, the hotel asked police to evict the pair, and Soto should he turn up, from the premise, so they all traveled to the seventh floor room to collect the couple's belongings.

Officers said they detected a strong odor of marijuana as soon as they entered the room. Police reported seeing marijuana buds and a marijuana cigarette sitting on a desk next to a black wallet. They found a photo identification for Soto and a driver's license and debit card for Bosley, as well as $352 in cash, inside the wallet. Since Bosley denied ownership of the wallet, only his debit card was returned to him. His license was seized since it was suspended, according to the police report.

Officers released the pair with a warning they could be facing drug possession charges, but quickly took them back into custody when an officer lifted the corner of a mattress and found a loaded 9 mm handgun.

Upon further search, officers also found a draw string back with 42 stamp bags of marijuana and a magazine of bullets for the handgun. Police were unable to determine ownership of the gun, but noted Bosley, Pollard and Soto do not have licenses to carry firearms.

Bosley and Pollard are each charged with possession and possession with intent to deliver, conspiracy and carrying an unlicensed firearm. Pollard also was charged with two counts of filing false reports with police. They both remained in the jail Wednesday after failing to post $20,000 bond each.
