Marco buys two more companiesJan 02, 2013 (St. Cloud Times - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- It's a new year but the same strategy from 2012 continues for Marco. Today, the company announced it has bought two more companies in the Upper Midwest region, making it Marco's fifth acquisition in the past six months. The most recent additions follow existing and new strategies. One purchase continues Marco's expansion into Iowa, with the acquisition of Midwest Office Automations, Inc., a copier and printer company with offices in Sioux City and Storm Lake. Those offices include 21 employees who will continue to work for Marco, which last month acquired Mason City Business Systems and its six locations and 75 employees. The other purchase announced today represents a step in a new direction: western North Dakota. Marco bought Midwest Business Systems, a copier and printer company with offices in Bismarck, Dickinson, Jamestown and Minot. Those offices include another 27 employees who will join Marco, which already has offices and 36 employees in Fargo and Grand Forks. With the 157 employees added in the past year, Marco has expanded its talent roster to 620 people at 35 locations in Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. "Our acquisition strategy involves buying companies that offer similar products and services as Marco but have locations where we don't currently have a presence," Marco CEO Jeff Gau said in a statement. "We plan to expand our service offerings to clients in these areas to provide them with even more innovative technology and expert service and support." Marco helps organizations manage their information with voice, data, video, and print solutions. Founded in 1973, the company is 100 percent employee owned. Last September, it acquired Five Star Telecom in Wisconsin. At the end of July, Marco added TelServ Communications in South Dakota. While many of the acquisitions have been remote to Central Minnesota, the company in August moved into a $7 million, 80,000-square-foot building on Heatherwood Road.
