'Many Brits use same password across all sites - study'

(DMeurope Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) A BroadbandChoices survey showed that although the average Brit subscribed to seven internet services and 30 percent subscribed to 10 or more, one fifth of respondants said they used the same password across all sites, making it much easier for hackers to access their personal data. The survey said that only 12 percent use the recommended secure mix of numbers, capitals and lower case letters when creating their passwords, with the figure dropping to just 9 percent for those in their 60s and 8 percent for those over 70. A second report showed that 16 percent of people failed to protect their wireless broadband connection with a password, while 11 percent admitted to using someone else's wifi without their permission. BroadbandChoices.co.uk product director Michael Phillips said it was essential to keep personal information safe online.
