Live Video Company TokBox Announces GDPR Compliance

TokBox, the live video, real-time communications (RTC) company, today announced that the company is now compliant with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), ahead of the May 25th deadline.

Scott Lomond, CEO of TokBox (News - Alert), noted: "GDPR is designed to strengthen data protection around personal information for EU citizens, to remove the barrier of mistrust which can hamper the development of innovative online services. TokBox is committed to being GDPR compliant to make it easy for our customers to access the European market."

The scope of TokBox's GDPR compliance includes the OpenTok Cloud platform and the Customer Relationship Management system in which personal data is processed and stored.

TokBox followed guidelines from The International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) that certify privacy professionals who advocate for Fair Information Privacy Principles originating from the Privacy Act of 1974 and enforced by the US Federal Trade Commission. To implement these principles for GDPR, TokBox leveraged ISACA, a professional association of certified IT auditors, which has published "Implementig the General Data Protection Regulation," and a Data Protection Impact Analysis worksheet.

"Our studies show that live video provides a unique platform to connect people around the world," Lomond added. "We've seen over a dozen countries represented in one video chat, and most of our customers reach consumers in the EU. Compliance with GDPR ahead of the deadline was an absolute must for our team, and I'm thrilled we've been successful."
