LAPTOP BOOM

(Daily Record Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) LAPTOPS are out-selling traditional desktop PCs for the first time.

High street retail chain PC World say lower prices and increased take-up of wireless internet use are behind the trend.

In April and May, 55 per cent of computers sold were laptops, against 40 per cent in the same period last year.

Around 780,000 laptops were sold in the UK in 2004, compared to 410,000 in 2002.
