Gillibrand, Hanna Announce Army Corps Approves Mohawk Valley Edge's Wetland Permit

(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) WASHINGTON, July 23 -- Rep. Richard Hanna, R-N.Y. (22nd CD), has issued the following news release: Today, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and U.S. Representative Richard Hanna announced that the Army Corps of Engineers approved the wetland permit for the site being developed by Mohawk Valley Economic Development Growth Enterprises (EDGE) to attract the chip fabrication industry to Marcy, New York. For several years, EDGE has been actively engaged in the development of the site to attract a semiconductor manufacturing facility in Marcy; the effort has broad support from the community and the congressional delegation. Gillibrand and Hanna worked hard to ensure the Army Corps approved this application to allow EDGE to move forward with site preparations and construction, so that the facility can in turn become a world-class, job-creating high-technology manufacturing hub.

"This is great news that the Marcy Nanocenter project can finally move forward," Senator Gillibrand said. "This project has the potential to be a powerful economic engine for the Mohawk Valley. The Marcy Nanocenter project is the kind of development we need to bring to the Mohawk Valley to create more good-paying, high-tech jobs right here in New York. I've visited the future site of the Marcy Nanocenter, and I know it's potential to be a real economic development engine in the region. This project holds tremendous economic opportunity for the region and is far too important to squander." "This has been a priority for me since taking office," Rep. Hanna said. "I have been in constant contact with the administration impressing the importance of this permit for the future of the Mohawk Valley and upstate New York. I am pleased this permit is now a reality and look forward to this multi-billion dollar semiconductor industry investing in our community." Hanna questioned the top two officials from the Army Corps during an April 2013 meeting of the Water Resources and Environment Subcommittee.
