Emerson Network Power Approved by Verizon to Test Network Elements for NEBS GR1089 Compliance

Jan 10, 2013 (M2 PRESSWIRE via COMTEX) -- Emerson Network Power, a business of Emerson (NYSE:EMR) and the global leader in enabling Business-Critical ContinuityT, today announced that it has been approved to perform its own GR-1089 NEBS qualification testing, via the Verizon NEBS Testing Certification Witnessing Program. As the number one supplier of ATCA systems and blades , Emerson Network Power can now provide a more complete and faster service to its customers, especially smaller telecom equipment manufacturers who may not have the in-house capability to perform these tests themselves. Emerson estimates that customers who engage in an early product development service program could reduce their post development qualification cycle time by 25 percent thanks to its in-house capability.

Network Equipment Building System or NEBS is the most common set of safety, spatial and environmental design guidelines applied to telecommunications equipment in the United States. The GR-1089 standard covers electromagnetic compatibility and electrical safety for network telecommunications equipment. ATCA system suppliers typically use an external independent test lab to perform NEBS testing, which adds time and cost to the project.

Following a recent successful audit by Verizon, Emerson Network Power - working with National Technical Systems (NTS), a leading Verizon-approved independent test lab - is now able to test and certify systems to the GR-1089 specification in its own global headquarters facility in Tempe, Arizona, USA.

"As one of the pioneers of integrated, application-ready ATCA systems, we are proud to be able to offer this new level of service to our customers and help them gain competitive advantage by trusting Emerson as their partner," said Brian Brown, vice president and general manager of marketing and services for Emerson Network Power's Embedded Computing business. "This certification underlines our unrivalled depth and breadth of experience and expertise in telecom platforms. Having demonstrated this competence in NEBS testing, we are continuing to invest in R&D and other initiatives that help our customers get to market faster, with less risk and with a differentiated product."
