Cupertino: Former mayor to lead Asian Americans for Community Involvement [The Cupertino Courier, Calif. :: ](Cupertino Courier, The (CA) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) July 17--Cupertino resident and former mayor Patrick Kwok has been selected as the new chairman of the board for Asian Americans for Community Involvement. The former mayor will serve as top member of the board through June 30 of next year. Kwok served on the Cupertino City Council in the mid-2000s through 2007 before stepping down to serve as a board member of the Santa Clara Valley Water District. He has more than 45 years of water resources management experience and retired from the city of San Jose's Environmental Services Department. Kwok is a registered civil engineer and holds masters degrees in civil engineering and public administration. He has served on numerous other boards and committees including the Chinese Historical and Cultural Project, Northwest YMCA, League of California Cities, Cupertino Rotary and the Bay Area Water Quality Management District. Kwok has also been the recipient of AACI's Gordon N. Chan Leadership Award, the Northwest YMCA Veteran Golden Triangle Award and a Cupertino CREST Award. The city-issued award recognizes Cupertino residents who take the extra step to serve their community. Kwok joined the Asian Americans for Community Involvement's board in 2009. Kwok has been married to his wife, Susan, for 48 years and has six children and 14 grandchildren. He emigrated from Hong Kong in 1968. "Patrick is passionate about AACI's focus on supporting healthy lives and building healthy communities." Asian Americans for Community Involvement is a large nonprofit organization focused on the Asian American community in Santa Clara County. Founded in 1973, AACI's mission is to improve the physical and mental health and well-being of the Asian community. AACI's services include youth development, primary care, mental health, HIV testing, education and prevention, substance abuse treatment, programs for drinking drivers, a Center for Survivors of Torture, problem gambling treatment, a domestic violence shelter, senior wellness services and advocacy.
