Consumer Electronics Association Awards OtterBox for Design and Engineering

Feb 05, 2013 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- OtterBox has been named an International CES Innovations 2013 Design and Engineering Awards Honoree for the new Armor Series and Defender Series with iON Intelligence cases.

In a release, the Company noted that the Innovations Design and Engineering Awards are sponsored by the Consumer Electronics Association, the producer of the International CES, a consumer technology tradeshow.

Products submitted for these prestigious awards are judged by a preeminent panel of independent industrial designers, engineers and members of the media to honor outstanding design and engineering in cutting-edge consumer electronics products across 29 product categories.

The Armor Series is honoree for the handset accessory category.

The Armor Series is a watertight case that allows full interactivity, while protecting the device. Metal latches, o-ring seal, port covers and mesh coverings keep water out and allow the Armor Series to tolerate submersions for 30 minutes in up to 6.6 ft. of water. Vents and port covers are made of a non-permeable membrane and protective mesh layer that allows sound to move through while keeping harmful elements out.

The case protects the device from 10 ft. drops. The high-strength reinforced plastic of the Armor Series can withstand up to two tons of force. Soft interior foam provides a cushioned, custom fit for the device. The built-in screen protector guards against scratches and damage to the glass display.

Assembly is simple with corrosion-resistant metal latches that lock the two halves of the case together. Port covers open for access to charging and headphone use without removing the case. The OtterBox Armor Series provides all around protection while maintaining full-device functionality.

The Defender Series with iON Intelligence, honoree for the portable power category, allows users to stay connected even longer with its trifecta of power, protection and app-enabled management. OtterBox engineers packed the Defender Series with microelectronics. For OtterBox, protection is a part of design. This product offers three-layer protection in addition to smart and seamless power. The first layer is a built-in screen protector that guards against scratches without inhibiting touch sensitivity; the second is a sturdy polycarbonate shell that securely snaps in place around the device and the third, outer layer, is a silicone skin, complete with port and plug covers that keep out dust and dirt.

Innovations award entries are judged based on the following criteria: -Engineering qualities, based on technical specs and materials used -Aesthetic and design qualities, using photos provided -The product's intended use/function and user value -Unique/novel features that consumers find attractive -Innovation and design comparisons to other products on the market OtterBox is a provider of protective solutions for handheld manufacturers, wireless carriers and distributors.
