Cloud-Smart VoIP Appliance Clears Obstacles to ALL-IP

Patton Electronics-US manufacturer of UC, cloud, and IoT enabling solutions for carrier, enterprise and industrial networks-is now shipping a new line of cost-effective, high-performance SmartNode enterprise session border controllers (eSBC) that offer optional two to eight built-in analog telephony interfaces.

Patton's eSBC is a new thing. This new VoIP CPE series is designed for small-offices that need to integrate POTS trunks or legacy FXS end points into ALL-IP and cloud-based communication systems, including on-premise and hosted unified communications (UC).

"Dumb analog telephony adapters-known as ATAs-are going obsolete," said Burton A. Patton (News - Alert), EVP. "Companies that want to connect existing voice and fax devices need a much smarter CPE."

Most SBCs are designed to support SIP-to-SIP communication only-with little or no consideration given to legacy device connectivity, network survivability, security or QoS. TDM-to-IP telephony is typically handled by an ATA. That approach means your small office is going to need at least two devices-in some cases five!-to implement an All-IP migration.

These products are much richer.

They deliver secure, converged voice and data with up to 8 integrated FXS ports. The devices also include a stateful firewall with secure TLS/SRTP encryption for signaling and voice-plus configurable mechanisms for preventing toll fraud and denial of service (DoS) attacks.

With a full suite of failover and load-balancing mechanisms for TDM and LTE (News - Alert) survivability, the units ensure business continuity.

If that weren't enough, an embedded PacketSmart probe provides such QoS/QoE performance metrics as Packet Loss, Jitter, MoS and more.

Even better news: a standard SmartNode 4141 VoIP gateway can be transformed into a rich-featured multi-functional eSBC appliance by easy activation of license keys.

A carrier-grade dual image feature-rarely found in low-port-count CPE-offers fallback/recovery capability for system-wide software upgrades. Patton offers the feature to service providers at no additional charge.

Last month Patton announced the new water-proof IP67-compliant CopperLink 1101 PoE Extender kits with outdoor enclosures that can extend 10/100 Ethernet and up to 15 Watts of 802.3af (or legacy) PoE up to 3,300 feet (915 meters).
