BRIEF: Boynton Beach police hunt brazen laptop thief

Jan 16, 2013 (Sun Sentinel - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Police need the public's help identifying a brazen thief who stole a man's laptop from a Boynton Beach McDonald's on New Year's Day.

The victim told police that at around 8:05 p.m., he stepped outside the restaurant at 1810 S. Federal Hwy. to smoke a cigarette, leaving his laptop and cell phone on the table.

Surveillance video clearly shows a man in a striped Polo-style shirt and white shorts stealing the items.

He begins by casing the table -- walking back and forth near it, apparently waiting to see if its owner is nearby. After about a minute, he puts the laptop's power cord in his pocket. He then lifts his shirt and struggles for several seconds to put the laptop in his shorts.

He walks away but comes back for the cell phone. He comes back again and uses his shirt in an attempt to wipe his fingerprints off the table. He then fled on a tan beach-cruiser type bicycle.

Anyone who recognizes the suspect or witnessed the theft is asked to call Det. Midian Diaz at 561-6113 or Crime Stoppers of Palm Beach County at 800-458-TIPS. You can remain anonymous. Tips can also be submitted via www.bbpd.org or www.facebook.com/boyntonbeachpolice.
