BRIEF: At&T phone customers can't make cell phone calls; blackout blamed

Dec 03, 2012 (Detroit Free Press - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A wide-spread blackout is affecting AT&T mobile phone users in metro Detroit, the service provider is reporting this morning.

AT&T spokesman Jermaine Spight said that the company is not sure what's causing the blackout and how many users it is affecting.

Spight said crews are working on the problem and should know by 11 a.m. more about who is affected and when service may be restored.

"We have to locate the source of the problem, and that would tell us how many people are affected," he said. "Right now, it just seems to be the Detroit area." The blackout is affecting only AT&T phone service.

"People can still text, go to the Internet and get data services to their devices," he said. "Right now it's just mobile service." ___ (c)2012 the Detroit Free Press Visit the Detroit Free Press at www.freep.com Distributed by MCT Information Services
