Bivio Networks Taps Steve Wallbank to Head EMEA Sales

PLEASANTON, CA, May 11, 2009 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) -- Bivio Networks, a leader in networking systems for deep packet inspection (DPI)-enabled applications and services essential for network security, visibility, control and monetization, today announced the appointment of Steve Wallbank as vice president of sales for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). In this role, Wallbank will manage all customer relationships, expanding Bivio's sales and market presence into the region's largest network equipment manufacturers, independent software vendors, network service providers, system integrators and government agencies in support of Bivio Networks' global growth strategy.

"Carriers, service providers and public sector defense and intelligence organizations worldwide recognize the need for powerful deep packet processing capabilities to manage and protect their networks. This need represents large market opportunities for Bivio Networks," said Andy Lovit, vice president of worldwide field operations for Bivio Networks. "Steve's business acumen and technology sales experience in the EMEA market will ensure that Bivio continues to be positioned as the region's leading supplier of DPI-enabled networking systems." An international sales and business development veteran, Wallbank brings more than 20 years of experience to Bivio Networks. Before joining Bivio, Wallbank led EMEA sales as vice president at Envivio, a leading IP video convergence solutions provider, where he positioned the company as a top three market leader in the EMEA region. Prior to Envivio, Wallbank directed EMEA sales at Skystream Networks and also contributed to the company's acquisition by Tandberg Television.

"From the need to deploy new and compelling revenue generating services to meeting network security and compliance regulations, the demand and deployment of deep packet inspection networking systems by carriers, government agencies, and commercial enterprises is rapidly accelerating," said Wallbank. "The networking industry transformation to DPI networking systems is well underway as customers and partners seek high-speed appliances that optimize service delivery and performance. With its portfolio of deep packet processing solutions, I am excited to join Bivio Networks, the market leader in the DPI networking space." Wallbank started his career in electronic design and sales support, assuming sales roles with increasing responsibility at major technology and telecommunications firms like Hewlett Packard (now HP) and Portal Software (acquired by Oracle).

Wallbank is a graduate of the University of Bath, where he took a degree in physics (first class honors).
