Alfresco Named Winner in 5th Annual EContent 100 Awards; EContent Named Alfresco One of the Companies that Matter Most in the Digital Content Industry

LONDON --(Business Wire)-- Dec. 14, 2005 -- Alfresco Software, Inc., the first provider of an open source enterprise content management solution, today announced that it had been named as one of the winners in the annual EContent 100 awards--a list of companies that matter most in the digital content industry--for content management and also for intranets and portals.. Other winners include such notable names as Google, EMC and Microsoft.

The Enterprise Content Market (ECM) market is growing at 18 percent with license sales of more than $2 billion. In parallel, there is a massive upsurge in the usage of open source with over 73 percent of the Fortune 1000 using or planning to use it in 2005 (Sources Forrester).

"Customers are looking to roll out ECM enterprise wide," said Dr. Ian Howells, chief marketing officer, Alfresco. "This is forcing IT departments to look at cost-effective rollout and how to integrate ECM into a modern architecture. Open source is being seen as the way forwards."

"In compiling this year's EContent 100 list, we found ourselves reinvigorated about the progress, growth, and potential of the digital content industry," said Michelle Manafy, editor of EContent magazine. "While recent years saw astounding M&A activity and attrition, this year witnessed a number of promising newcomers joining the fray, and the list, as well as significant signs of maturity in leveraging XML, RSS, open source and mobility. Alfresco's inclusion in the list show it as a leader in providing the open source alternative for ECM." The EContent 100 list is available in the December print issue of the magazine and online at www.econtentmag.com.
