Alereon Formally Supports Bluetooth SIG Acceptance of WiMedia Alliance UWB Radio; Company's UWB Solution Designed to Power Next Generation Bluetooth Applications

AUSTIN, Texas --(Business Wire)-- March 28, 2006 -- Alereon, Inc., the foremost provider of complete solutions for WiMedia ultrawideband (UWB) applications, announces its support of the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) in its official acceptance of the WiMedia Alliance's UWB radio platform for next generation Bluetooth applications. The Bluetooth SIG made this announcement at its annual "All Hands" meeting today in Seattle, Washington.

"We have been a strong supporter of this movement from the onset and we are thrilled with the Bluetooth SIG's decision today. We believe this announcement marks the natural progression of a very valuable and consumer friendly technology," said Eric Broockman, founder and CEO of Alereon. "We were the first company to show how USB technology could benefit from the power savings and speed of WiMedia-certified UWB technology, and we look forward to continuing this trend by now providing reference designs and other tools to support next generation Bluetooth applications."

As further evidence of Alereon's leading support for the Bluetooth/UWB movement, Dr. Michael Foley, executive director of the Bluetooth SIG, illustrated the seamlessness of Bluetooth technology powered by UWB utilizing Alereon's first-of-its-kind demo during his speech to SIG members.

"Bluetooth version 2.0 devices operate at data rates that can be frustratingly slow for the transmission and download of large files," continued Broockman. "Alereon was able to demonstrate how the combination of Bluetooth software and UWB hardware provides a faster solution for large data transfer."

Currently, Alereon provides an array of UWB solutions, including silicon, development systems, hardware, software, antennas and reference designs for Wireless USB and WiMedia ultrawideband systems. The AL4000 family includes the AL4100 WiMedia RF Transceiver, the AL4200 WiMedia BaseBand Processor and the AL4300 Wireless USB device Media Access Controller and BaseBand Processor (MAC/BBP).
