Vertical Communications (News - Alert) earlier this month revealed it has garnered $21.5 million in new funding and introduced Vertical Cloud Connect. The funding, which was provided by PNC (News - Alert) Bank and Trinity Capital, will be used to strengthen Vertical’s balance sheet and otherwise move its strategy forward.

That strategy includes providing customers with unified communications solutions that leverage a platform; prepackaged applications; and tools to enable anyone to customize or create their own applications. And it’s all done with the goal of helping organizations in various verticals improve workflow to drive productivity and efficiency within their businesses, notes Bobby Mohanty, senior vice president of product at Vertical Communications.

Earlier this year the company talked about Vertical One Framework, which is how it delivers these applications and services. The company’s UC platform is at the core of it. APIs and SDKs allow for customization. And it provides application building blocks, delivered from the cloud, to help expedite application creation as well.

The new Vertical Cloud Connect, which is a component of the Framework, is the roadway being built that allows the traffic/applications to pass through, as Mohanty explained it. Running on Amazon Web Services (News - Alert), it makes available via the cloud Vertical’s solutions so customers can more easily access them and enjoy their benefits.

“Over the last few years, our strategy has been to move our call management platforms and application portfolio to the cloud, adding new microservices to provide our customers with even greater functionality,” said CEO Peter Bailey. “Vertical Cloud Connect is integral to this strategy. VCC streamlines deployment, increases scalability and improves the resilience of data and applications so customers can now create a more customized communications infrastructure that combines Vertical’s existing and new cloud-based communications applications, microservices, and productivity tools.”
